Cultural Craft for Kids: Italian Stained Glass

July 24, 2014

To make this craft with your kids, download the Italian Stained Glass template from Cultural Care Au Pair here.

Stained glass is a craft that has been used for hundreds of years throughout Europe. Stained glass can be made in flat panels and used in windows (like in the Basilica di Santa Maria in Rome), but also in 3-dimensional sculpture like the famous Italian Murano glass which originated on the Venetian island of Murano.

Using the scissors and construction paper, cut out a frame in the size of your choice. Cut a piece of contact paper larger than the frame and lay the frame on the sticky side of the contact paper. Cut up pieces of tissue paper in different sizes and shapes and stick them to the contact paper inside the frame. Once you are happy with the design, cut another piece of contact paper to put on top of the frame (sticky sides together). Trim the excess contact paper.
