Product Owner

Cambridge-1 Education Street

The Product Owner is responsible for maximizing the value of the product and the work of the Development Team(s). As a member of the team you are responsible for defining and prioritizing the team backlog so as to streamline the execution of program priorities, while maintaining conceptual and technical integrity of the features or components the team is responsible for.

The Product Owner is the custodian of the product backlog therefore is the only team member empowered to accept new stories. You will drive iteration content via these prioritized stories, establishing story acceptance criteria.

 

Responsibilities:

Product Backlog

  • Clearly expressing Product Backlog items
  • Ordering the items in the Product Backlog to best achieve goals & missions
  • Ensuring that the Product backlog is visible, transparent, and clear to all, and shows what the Scrum Team will work on next
  • Ensuring the Development Team understands items in the Product Backlog to the level needed.
  • The Product Owner may do the above work, or have the Development Team do it. However, the Product Owner remains accountable.

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with customers and other stakeholders to optimize the value of the products through Agile product delivery
  • Proactively collaborate with the development team to drive user stories and groom the product backlog
  • Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs
  • Participate with Product Management team as needed to gain visibility, vision, context, and clarity of products to be delivered
  • Use clear goals to communicate project vision at the beginning of every release and sprint so that the team understands the target objectives

Agile Governance

  • Ensure that Agile process is adhered to and championing process where required
  • Take active part in communities of practice and mentor other Product Owners where necessary
  • Attend all ceremonies including backlog planning, refinement, sprint planning, stand-ups, sprint review, sprint retrospective and release planning.
  • Champion the values and principles of the Agile Manifesto and encourage others to do the same

Build Relationships

  • Build and maintain relationships with key internal customers and contacts within appropriate external organisations

Innovation

  • Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation by making suggestions to improve work systems, processes and procedures used in terms of service, accuracy of output, responsiveness etc.

Team work

  • Work autonomously within a team, supporting other members and contributing to team goals and spirit. Assist others, as needed, to ensure that overall service objectives and targets of the team are achieved.
  • Adhere to company policies including health and safety and report any risks or issues to management.
  • Take a pro-active approach to health and safety and the prevention of work place injuries.

Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to a) manage products in a complex environment and b) formal use of product backlog refinement, prioritization and user story writing/mapping
  • Experience within an Agile environment.
  • Proven ability to manage, track and report on development financials.
  • Ability to elicit and document customer, plus systems requirements, specifications, and outputs.
