Cultural Care Au Pair is so excited to announce that the Walters family is our 2018 Host Family of the Year!
The Walters have hosted au pairs with us for 8 years, truly embracing the benefits of cultural exchange and perfectly embodying the spirit of the au pair program. They’ve been so adored by their au pairs over the years that many of them have gone into extension together – even better, the Walters family’s current LCC was a former au pair of theirs!
Anyone who knows this incredible family knows that they radiate joy wherever they go. Take it from South African au pair Shandrae, who nominated them for this prestigious award:
“One of the greatest lessons I have learned from my host family is to be nothing more than happy and grateful for what I have. My host family finds pleasures in the simplest of things in life, such as saying grace together before dinner and singing along to Disney songs while on a road trip. For them family comes first. This is a lesson I shall instill in my family someday.”
Just as they have welcomed each of their au pairs into their home and their hearts with open arms, the Walters family made Shandrae feel immediately at home upon her arrival. All four host kids helped their parents decorate Shandrae’s new bedroom, filling the space with little gifts, photos of her loved ones and hand-drawn pictures expressing their love.
“As much as they have taught me, my host family has also afforded me the opportunity to be a part of their family,” says Shandrae. “They allowed me to pursue my dream of working with children, which is my passion.”
“I am extremely grateful for each of them. I now have a second place to call home and another family to call my own.”
