Extraordinary au pairs win Cultural Care Pink Heart Award

Caring au pairs from around the USA

3 minutes

There are so many reasons why young people come to the USA, including building a deep bond with their host families! When difficult or unprecedented circumstances arise, au pairs often play a critical role in helping families overcome them. For au pairs who have been with their host families through situations from military deployment to health challenges to big life changes, we created the Pink Heart Award to honor their incredible spirits and commitment.

To get a better sense of the incredible difference our au pairs are making, read just a few of the sentiments shared by our host families:

“[Nomkhosi] has been an immense help to me, a single mom of twin girls, who also has a huge career serving in the Air Force. In the last year, Nomkhosi adjusted from watching the girls before and after daycare to full-time care when daycare proved difficult, based on my girls’ many health challenges. She embodies the spirit of the program and goes above and beyond for me and my precious daughters. It’s not just a job but an opportunity to learn, grow, connect, share, and care.”

“Sandy isn’t just an au pair; she’s an integral part of our family. When she joined us as our second au pair, we quickly realized we were sent an angel. A few months into Sandy’s stay, our family experienced inexplicable loss after loss. She remained a pillar of strength.”
— Jordan, host dad in MN

“[When we met Rocco], we were trying to explain that our son may be on the autism spectrum. We were not sure if Rocco really understood what we were saying, then he sent us a video of himself at 6 with astoundingly similar mannerisms as our son. Rocco said he understood completely and that these differences did not matter to him, he only saw the person. He said that our son seemed like a very cool person. As a mom, I just about fell over at the depth of Rocco’s understanding and easy acceptance of someone who may have neurodiverse traits… Rocco has changed our son’s life in ways that we could never have imagined.”

Please join us in congratulating our 2024 Pink Heart Award winners!

To commemorate these au pairs and their dedication, a donation to the Cultural Care Kids First Foundation has also been made in their honor. The Cultural Care Kids First Foundation is a charitable program whose goal is to help at-risk children all over the world by providing opportunities for education, culture, and recreation.
