Cultural Crafts for Kids: Brazilian Carnival mask

February 8, 2013

To make this craft with your kids, download and print the Brazilian Carnival mask template at the bottom of this article from Cultural Care Au Pair.

Carnival is Brazil’s biggest and most popular holiday. It takes place 6 weeks before Easter (right before the beginning of Lent) and is celebrated for six days with large scale parades. Participants dress in ornate costumes and masks and the crowds sing and dance along.

  • Brazilian Carnival mask template (download here)
  • Piece of poster board or card stock
  • Paint, crayons, markers, feathers, stickers and other things with which to decorate
  • Scissors
  • Rubber bands

Choose one of the mask templates on our downloadable sheet and trace it onto your poster board or card stock. Cut out the mask and decorate with colorful designs. Cut two holes on either side of the mask and knot the rubber band in each of the holes (this is what will hold it on your head.) Enjoy!
