The Sirota family had never before hosted an au pair before they started matching this past spring. They kept an open mind when looking at different candidates but the Sirota boys, 8-year-old Sam and 6-year-old Ben had one specific request when it came to their final choice. In the end, they got what they wanted and welcomed their perfect match, German au pair Maria Wittmann, into their family this June!
Host mom Lili Sirota:
Our boys really enjoy drawing and working on art projects. They really wanted an “artist” in our first au pair.
Au pair Maria Wittmann from Germany:
While I was with my last host family, my girls had to do weekly projects for school. One project we did was about Michelle Obama. We designed a board game with questions about her life. You start at her childhood home, walked through her garden (because she loves gardening in her free time), and the finish line is the White House. I knew I wanted to continue sharing my passion for art with my extension family. I had a very good and positive feeling from moment I started reading the Sirota family’s application. I also loved that the kids were creative.
Maria and her host boys make comic books together.
Lili: My husband and I and our kids had an instant connection with Maria. Her creativity, curiosity and imagination really shined through in her personality. We feel so lucky to have found Maria!
Maria:
Me and my host kids are always working on cool stuff. Right now we are making a book together by illustrating a story the boys made up. They have so much fun drawing the funny, comic style pictures and are really into it and have great ambitions.
These are just a few of the beautiful pencil drawings created by Maria. See more of her artwork on Instagram: @hometown.hero
Lili: I love it when I come home from a busy day at work and find the boys and Maria all at one desk together quietly working on their drawings. It is such a peaceful and beautiful sight to come home to.
Maria Wittmann:
Now I know for sure that this it the family I wanna spend my extension year with because I’m a family member to 100%. I feel very comfortable in my home abroad and we have a lot of fun.
Wouldn’t you agree that the Sirota family and Maria are the perfect match? We wish Sam, Ben and Maria many amazing months together making more comic books. Anyone else out there find their perfect match? Tell us about it!
